WoW! I don’t think that you are missing any business model but to some extend some of the articles neglect the true power of connecting people. The most traditional models of advertisements and collect membership fees are built into software like http://www.rsitez.com that allow individuals to create their social network. However as social network are better known and people in different sites connect more and we will see auctions and sales (maybe with classifieds) that can challenge existign and profitables business like ebay.

website like http://www.socialgo.com also allow you to create a social network and charge subscription fees.
