I would like to congratulate Linkedin on creating useful ways to encourage us to engage online with our contacts.
Linkedin Engagement Nudges
Notified this morning of a friend’s job promotion, I write a two sentence note to wish her well. Scanning down my home feed, I check out and like my clients’ activities and check out links recommended by friends. During the week, I am notified of colleagues’ activities and endorsements, which encourages me to endorse and comment back.
How Linkedin Encourages Engagement
- Adopting and creating lightweight methods of brief contacts, such as the ability to Like comments or click to endorse someone’s skills.
- Nudges to endorse back, both in emails and even in the news feed under someone being endorsed by others (“Endorse your contacts” in light grey type) Another example is the 4 contacts you are given the opportunity to endorse for a particular skill, right as you log in.
- Well-designed, single message emails, with ideas to improve your profile or expand your connections. (Be sure your email preferences are set to allow such emails.)
- Giving us tools for posative touches, such as using endorsements to send a quick “pat on the back” to a friend, prospect or client. I tell my clients, “Use this to encourage closer bonds with your clients and prospects.”
Linkedin makes online networking easier and easier. Kudos to them! What ideas can you adopt for your social network?
